DRAFT LOCAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME CONSULTATION
RESPONSE BY COUNCILLOR JOHN RIDD

Dear Resident

With the possibility still of some 1250 new homes to the south west of Chichester, I have responded, as your District Councillor, to the latest consultation document from the District Council.

This proposes a variety of policies concerning developments to meet Government targets up to 2023 and a huge range of new infrastructure essential to support them – roads, transport, employment and public utilities, for example, as well as policies to protect the environment and communities.

With the good of our parish in mind, now was the time to state our views.

In outline my comments were:-

  1. I SUPPORT more housing for local first time buyers but OBJECT to Stockbridge being included as part of the City community capable of sustaining a huge development possibly to the south west.
  2. I SUPPORT, in principle, the need for a Stockbridge Relief Road and improved A27 and associated highways and that they be a PRE-REQUISITE to any major local development.
  3. I QUESTION, however, the deliverability of the huge range of essential infrastructure.
  4. I SUPPORT renewable energy but OBJECT to local land-based wind farms.
  5. I urge greater stress on local environmental and landscape issues to preserve countryside and communities
  6. I SUPPORT the Canal’s extension scheme in principle, but urge the bridging issues to be formally identified and reflected in the policies.

I think by mid 2006 there will be further documents for our consultation, so I will continue to try to represent our local views along with our parish council.

Please feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely

John Ridd
District Councillor
